LUDWIG von der DRESSEL called DRESSEL

CHRONOLOGY:
born: 1821, Willenberg, East Prussia, Lutheran
1st mar: Jan. 9, 1846 to Noble Maryana Mierzejewski
2nd mar: 1850, at the age of 29, was II married to Noble Eva Kossakowski
died: Jan. 20, 1885, Chorzele, Poland

Irena Dreszer's Memory of Ludwig Dryszel:
Ludwik Dryszel son of Johanna Dreszela and Barbara Peter. Was born in Wielbark in 1820 (according to his daughter, Mariana’s birth certificate) or 1923 (according to his son Franciszek’s birth certificate...) He was the last member of the family raised in the evangelical religion. Later, all of his descendants would practice Catholicism.

The first years of his life were spent in Wielbark. Before the year 1825 (according to J. Pilnaczek) he moved with his parents and older brother Johannem to Chorzele”: There, he spent his teenage years. He also met Ewa Kossakowna, born in 1831 or 1832. They were married before 1951, in Chorzele (The approximate date of their wedding is based on their oldest child's birth certificate. Jan, was born in 1951.) After getting married, the couple settled in the village of Przysowy, which is located some 5 kilometers south of Chorzele. Przysowy, once used to be the place where Ludwig's uncle Gottlieb Dreszel lived. However, most of his years were spent in the village of Polon, located close to Przysowy. (Gottlieb's son, Wojciech was born there in 1830.)

Ultimately, Przysowy made a great, and comfortable place for the young couple to start their new life as a family. It was the village where Ludwig started to manage a pub. He was not the owner though, but more of the owner's assistant. As opposed to his fellow Dreszel relatives, Ludwig did not perform any of their typical craftsmans' type of occupations. The first three children of Ludwik and Ewa are born there as well. Most likely, in the next years, Ludwig managed the pub by himself, and later bought it. (In July 30, he is named the Godfather of Marianna, the daughter of Jan Grabowski and Jozefa Sosnowski. Marianna’s birth certificate states his profession as the Pub Owner.)

In 1857, or before, Ludwig and Ewa come back to Chorzele (their fourth child-Marianna is born there on October, 19 1857.) The reasons that made them relocate are unknown, perhaps the house in Przysowy was too small for the expanding, growing family. Perhaps, during that time Ludwig acquired land around Orzyc River in Chorzele. That was the spot where Ludwig built his wooden, house. Considering the times, the structure was of a decent size and it was the residence of the Dressel family for many years. That house was demolished in the late sixties of our century… Ludwig also owned quite a large piece of farm land. He was also working as a farmer, (his primary occupation is listed, as a farmer on his son Franciszek’s, death certificate from October 5, 1867) That occupation obviously provides a decent income, consequently he was able to finish construction on a large new house. His wife does not work at that time and the family kept on expanding. In Chorzele are born:

Marianna - October 19, 1857
Wincenty - August 18 1859
Franciszek - November 26, 1861
Szymon - October 29, 1863
Franciszek - July 21, 1865 ( was named after his brother who died earlier)
Ludwika - December 15, 1866
Franciszka - January 15 1869
Julian - May 23 1871

Out of the eleven children of Ludwig and Ewa, at least three died before their parents;
Franciszek (older) died May 16, 1964,
Franciszek (younger) died October 4, 1867,
Julian died on June 17, 1874.

Clearly, the name Franciszek, was not lucky for Ludwig's family.

Evidently, hard work, family obligations, as well as the relocation to a new country have prevented Ludwig from having enough time for his own education. Even at the age of forty some years, he could not write, (he is listed as unable to write on the death certificate of his son, Franciszek from October 5, 1967)
In the last years of his life, Ludwig opened a Carpenter's Shop, in a section of his house, where his son Wincenty worked and at times helped his father.

Ludwig Dryszel died on January 29, 1885 in Chorzele. He was buried in the old cemetery along the Orzyc River, not too far from his house. Ludwig probably had dark hair, while his son Wincenty was a Brunette.
